The first mages were discovered in March of 2012. The government reaction was immediate: the threat of magic was too grave to let its users survive. Soon after it was found that magic is endemic, with estimates emerging that mages could number in the millions. As public opinion shifted, the demand for justice against those who had orchestrated the Blue March murders became overwhelming.

Marissa Oberland, a middling mage working for a securities company, finds herself tasked with protecting Berry Redford, one of the men responsible for the atrocity. But as Redford’s enemies begin to threaten her life, Marissa becomes victim to two truths of the world: there are few things more powerful than sentiment, and not all good acts are just.
