Vero is an orphan, raised by a cruel and abusive master to hunt monsters after the death of her parents. To protect herself in a harsh feudal society, she has adopted a male identity and travels in men’s clothes.

When she receives a strange tome as payment for a hunt, Vero follows the clues within on a quest to find the final stronghold her order once held, and the priceless records and relics therein. Located far up in the snowy mountains, where the days are short and the nights are haunted by vampires, the fortress was rumored to have been destroyed long ago. Nevertheless, Vero leaves those close to her behind to learn the truth of her order’s origins.

An Unequal Share is a character focused series of episodic stories, placed in a grounded and low magic medieval setting. It’s progression dark fantasy, with romantic sub-plots including both bisexual and polyamorous themes.

What to expect:

  • Long story, moderate pacing. Character driven downtime scenes, but no detailed kingdom management, base building, etc.

  • Non-linear storytelling, frequent action and intrigue.

  • Protagonist who tries to be morally good, but is forced into harsh situations where she must confront complex and grey choices for survival.

  • Serious character development narrative with protagonist failures and setbacks, no ridiculous power scaling.

  • Detailed world with religions, mythology, and history.

  • Magic system based on real world folklore, some minor western-style cultivation elements.

  • Crossdressing female MC, inspired by the historical Joan of Arc.
