Mary has responsibilities now; a job to keep, bills to pay, paperwork to fill out. She can’t do the whole adventure thing, it’s just too ridiculous. Doesn’t matter if the weird always stays right at the edges, trying to drag her back in, she’s learned her lessons.
Some people, though, have yet to learn theirs.
